History
When the first rope, the ancestor of today's EDELWEISS ropes, was manufactured in Austria, mountaineering as a sport was barely born. It was 1790, and the first ascent of Mont Blanc was a current event. EDELWEISS already had the right answer to the demands of the new alpine culture regarding safety with the production of the first climbing ropes. And that was just the beginning of the development of the climbing equipment we know today. The history of EDELWEISS is marked by significant developments that must be viewed against the backdrop of the history of mountaineering and today's sport climbing.
INVENTOR OF THE "CORE-ENCLOSED" TECHNOLOGY
In 1953, EDELWEISS introduced the biggest innovation in mountaineering: the first core-enclosed rope was created, a rope with a separate core wrapped in a braided sheath. This rope was more abrasion-resistant and significantly more durable, making it much safer than anything that had existed up to that point. This safety opened up many paths and routes, and the technology is now the foundation for the production of all climbing ropes, whether dynamic or static.
DESIGN AND PRODUCTION
Skills and experience are not laurels on which we want to rest. We work and learn every day, and we are getting better. With our in-house product development and the know-how that spans from design to finished product, we at EDELWEISS are still leading the way in rope technology in the 21st century. With the technology available to us, we can combine various parameters and materials, resulting in the right rope for every application.
TESTING AND SAFETY
Standards, certifications, tests, and real-world experiences determine the quality of our ropes. Impact force, breaking strength, elongation, etc., we not only meet standards, but we are committed to exceeding these requirements and setting new standards. If a standard requires a minimum of 5 UIAA falls, our products achieve 8, 9, 10, or more. Ropes with verified sharp edge resistance are proof of this. We identify a problem in reality and find a solution. The safety of the user is our goal!
