EDELWEISS CONCEPT

ROPES EDELWEISS CONCEPT
ARC
(Advanced Rope Control)
A new concept wherein the sheath design changes at the mid-point. Facilitates rope management when top roping and abseiling.

SEM
(Special End and Middle marking)
An Edelweiss concept which allows easy identification of both middle of the rope and the last six metres at each end. This will enable a warning to be passed to the leader when the half way point has been reached, or when he has only six meters left. It is also an important aid to safety in abseiling. The SEM middle mark is made with an ink specially developed for polyamide and the six metre identification is via
a change in the weave pattern.
SEM is an important safety aid.

ROPES SHARP EDGE RESISTANT

It has been stated by authoritive bodies (UIAA / BMC, etc) that ropes rarely fail in normal falls and most failures are due to being cut by sharp edges. Edelweiss was the first rope manufacturer to design, test and produce a rope to minimise the risk of this hazard. We are proud to be innovator of this extremely important development. The UIAA Norm 108 (Sharp Edge Resistant Rope) is based upon the Sharp Edege Test developed by Edelweiss. The UIAA sharp edge test consists of holding a Factor 2 fall, as in the standard dynamic rope test, but the 5mm radius bar is replaced by a sharp edge only 0.75mm radius. Normal dynamic ropes fail this test but the Edelweiss “Sharp Edge Resistant” ropes pass. In climbing situations you will encounter sharper edges than the 0.75mm radius. All ropes have their limits and you must always protect you ropes (and yourself) from this danger. All our Sharp Edge Resistant ropes benefit from our Super-Everdry and Perdur treatments thus making them the most advanced ropes available throughout the world.

PERDUR
Another special process developed by the Edelweiss team is coating the ropes with Perdur. With a weight of 10 kg the rope is pulled up and down across an abrasive rod. The rope is simulaneously rotated and this realistically re-creates the damage suffered during climbing activity. This test shows that the Perdur coating increases the abrasion resistance by 33% - and this for exactly the same type of rope!

SUPER EVERDRY

Edelweiss was the first climbing rope maker to apply an Everdry treatment to its fibres. The benefits are self evident. Wet ropes are heavier, take longer to dry, and are more liable to freezing
and stiffening.
In our Alpine ropes all fibres, in the core and the sheath, have
our Super-Everdry treatment. This surpasses our standard Everdry treatment, where only the sheath fibres are treated, and competitive treatments..
EVERDRY

All Edelweiss dynamic ropes have a water repellent treatment. Our “Everdry” treatment reduces water absorption by circa 50%. Our “Super-everdry” impregnation reduces water absorption by circa 75%. This has the benefits of :

• wet ropes weigh less
• wet ropes dry faster
• wet ropes are less liable to icing and stiffening
• the ropes have an increased life span.
